Queer Literary Evening | Coming Out of My Skin, by Jean-Baptiste Phou

Queer literary evening with Jean-Baptiste Phou: Coming Out of My Skin

As part of the celebrations around Pride Month, Jean-Baptiste Phou gives a reading-performance adapted from two of his books. First, a selection of stories taken from 80 Words from Cambodia (L’Asiathèque, 2023) based on the LGBTQI scene in Phnom Penh. Then extracts from Coming Out of My Skin (Le Seuil, 2024) recounting his experience as a gay Asian man in France and the racism that operates within the homosexual community. The performance will be followed by a signing session.

Jean-Baptiste Phou is a multidisciplinary writer and artist born in Paris to Chinese-Cambodian parents. His play Cambodia, Here I Am (L’Asiathèque, 2017) is performed in France and Cambodia and his film My Mother’s Tongue received the audience prize for documentary film at the International Festival of Asian Cinema in Vesoul in 2023.
