Dancing at Lughnasa (1990)
by Brian Friel

Welcome to the Irish countryside of the 1930s. Between laughter and tears, alongside his mother and aunts, the narrator, Mickaël, travels back in time through his childhood memories. During the summer of 1936, before the Lughnasa fires went out, the Mundy sisters dreamed of only one thing: going to dance at the harvest ball. But behind this bucolic picture, the implacable turning point of the collapse of a world is playing out.

This work by Brian Friel immerses us in the duality of everyday life constrained by a Catholic, poor and patriarchal Ireland and the soft nostalgic light of childhood.
