Cin’Atelier July/August

The Media Library and Cinema teams of the Institut français offer you a new program to both exercise your children’s brains and help them discover new horizons! Cin’Ateliers are a package made of a cinema screening and a creative workshop linked with the chosen film. Ideal to keep your children busy for a few hours, and have them develop a wide array of skills!

$2 per screening / $3 per workshop / Package: $5 (screening + workshop)

  • Thursday, July 27th

            2pm – Screening : “Tales of the Night” from 5 years old – 84 minutes / French with English subtitles

Every night, a girl, a boy and an old technician meet in a small cinema that seems to be abandoned, but is full of wonders. The three friends invent, document, draw and disguise themselves. And they play all the stories they want on a magical night where anything is possible – wizards and fairies, powerful kings and stable boys, werewolves and beautiful ladies without mercy, cathedrals and straw huts, golden cities and deep forests, waves of harmony from huge choirs and the spells of a single tamtam, wickedness that ravages and innocence that triumphs… Watch the trailer!

           3:30pm – Creative workshop: “Photophore” – Media Library / 10 people max

Every evening, an old technician, a young girl and a boy meet in a small cinema to imagine, direct and act out tales of their invention. The night is the perfect time to invent and tell the fantastic stories you create. Come and make your own photophore to accompany your stories!

            2pm – Screening : “Little Vampire” from 5 years old – 85 minutes / French with English subtitles

Little Vampire lives in a haunted house with a merry band of monsters, but he’s terribly bored… It’s been 300 years since he was 10 years old, so pirate ships and the movie club haven’t been fun for him for a long time. His dream? To go to school and make friends. But his parents don’t see it that way, the outside world is far too dangerous. Accompanied by Fantomate, his faithful bulldog, Little Vampire escapes from the manor in secret, determined to meet other children. Watch the trailer!

Little Vampire is 10 years old… For 300 years. But our team of librarians has the power to make it live… and grow! Together, let’s bring this mythical character from Joann Sfar’s comics to life by making a comforter in his likeness.

           9:30am – Creative workshop: “Eiffel Tower” – Media Library / 10 people max

In Stinky Dog, Happy Life in Paris!, the capital is more than a setting, it becomes a character in its own right. In your hands, the Eiffel Tower, which is the essential emblem of this city, will become even more beautiful! Let yourself be guided in the realization of the monument and decorate it to your taste!

           10:30am – Screening : “Stinky Dog, Happy Life in Paris!” from 5 years old – 85 minutes / French with English subtitles

Once upon a time there was a Parisian dog, naive and passionate, called Chien Pourri (rotten dog). With Chaplapla, his faithful gutter companion, Chien Pourri walks the streets of Paris, truffles blowing in the wind. No matter what disasters it causes, it always gets back on its feet! So much so that other dogs are starting to find it suspicious … A program of five short films to follow the crazy adventures of Chien Pourri and his friends and introduce the poetry of Paris to the little ones!   • Thursday, August 24th

            2am – Screening : “Calamity, a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary” from 5 years old – 82 minutes / French with English subtitles

1863, United States of America. Martha Jane’s father is injured in a convoy heading west with the hope of a better life. She must drive the family wagon and care for the horses. The apprenticeship is hard, but Martha Jane has never felt so free. And because it’s more convenient to ride, she doesn’t hesitate to put on pants. It is the audacity of too much for Abraham, the leader of the convoy. Accused of theft, Martha is forced to flee. Dressed as a boy, looking for proof of her innocence, she discovers a world under construction where her unique personality will assert itself. Watch the trailer!

In a convoy heading west with the hope of a better life, Martha Jane’s father is injured. It is she who must drive the family cart and tend the horses. In the middle of the road, his cart is broken. Why not help him make a new cart? Using recycled materials, make your own miniature cart!

  • Friday, August 25th

            2pm – Screening : “Raining Cats and Frogs” from 6 years old – 90 minutes / French with English subtitles

At the end of the world, far away from everything, a family lives peacefully on a cosy farm perched at the top of a hill. But at the base of the hill, the frogs are very agitated. There is no longer any doubt: all predictions coincide, a huge flood is about to inundate the earth. Faced with this catastrophe, the frogs agree to communicate – just this once – with human beings. And so a great adventure begins in which animals and humans must learn to live together. It’s easier said than done… Watch the trailer!

           3:30pm – Creative workshop: “Book of Animals” – Media Library / 10 people max

A new deluge falls on the Earth. Only a small motley troop led by Ferdinand, today’s Noah, manages to defy the elements that are unleashed in excess. Humans and animals are drawn into the whirlwind of an incredible adventure… All together, the animals cooperate and help each other. Come and design your own booklet to put these characters in the spotlight!

  • Saturday, August 26th

           9:30am – Creative workshop: “The Little Birds” – Media Library / 10 people max

The mockingbird is a father who takes care of his children alone, his wife having been shot by the king. He fights for a free world. Like this emblematic character, let’s create a family of birds!

           10:30am – Screening : “The King and the Mockingbird” from 5 years old 83 minutes / French with English subtitles

In Her Majesty’s secret apartment, a painter is putting the finishing touches to the King’s portrait. But he forgot to draw a cage first. And the portrait, which is the damned soul of the king, suppresses its model and takes its place. Suddenly, the essence of things is revealed, the inexpressible can be expressed. The painting representing a shepherdess and a chimney sweep comes to life. They confess their love. But the king is in love with the shepherdess, and the children who love each other must run away… Scenario and dialogues by Jacques Prévert, after La Bergère et le Ramoneur by Hans Christian Andersen.
