Philong Sovan and Clément Briend have both been trained at the National School Louis Lumière in Paris. They share a similar approach in the way they work by staging reality: spectacular projections for French artist Clément Briend, dramatization of night scenes for Cambodian artist Philong Sovan.
For this residency, started by Institut français du Cambodge and supported by Cambodia Airports, the two photographers chose to work with the students on themes such as light and life. If light is an essential component in photography – which, by the way, comes from the Greek “drawing with light” – life is, in all its aspects, one of the key subjects treated and represented in photography. Thus, the challenge given to the students was to portray life within a creative approach to light.
This exhibition is the result of the work of these two artists after a residence with young Cambodians, all students of Le Studio Images of the Institut français du Cambodge.
