The French Institute of Cambodia partners with Phare Ponleu Selpak to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the association! From April 4 to April 6, in all the spaces of the Institute, Phare Ponleu Selpak will show all the creativity of its artists – musicians, graphic artists, circus artists, visual artists and designers – during 3 days of celebrations, “Light the Lights”, with concerts, performances and an exhibition. The program below:
Exhibition // Thursday April 04 at 6:30pm
The visual and applied arts exhibition will start on the 04th of April, 2019. From 6.30PM, you will dive in the work of Phare Ponleu Selpak’s visual artists, designers and animators.
Visual Arts – a collective exhibition, organised as one of Phare Ponleu Selpak’s 25 years anniversary celebration. The artworks you will discover through this exhibition were all made by Phare Ponleu Selpak’s artists, founders and graduates from Phare Visual and Applied Arts School. Through their paintings, sculptures and installations, they share their personal stories, follow their inspirations and express their feelings. They also share with us their vision of the Cambodian history and the modern society. Thus, they are the new faces of the contemporary art in Cambodia. The two installations, including a giant bamboo sphere, will be displayed in the exhibition room and in the gardens of the French Institute.
Animation / Graphic Design – Through a series of informative panels and video clips highlighting the work done by the students of Phare, this exhibition aims at raising awareness of these two disciplines by demystifying their creative processes.
During the opening, a live painting show will welcome spectators, accompanied by music and circus acts. A concert is also planned with the fanfare 3Francs6Sous, touring in Asia.
Concert // Friday April 05 at 7pm
The Phare Ponleu Selpak music students will play a selection of tracks:
- Samba reggae (remixed with Cambodian traditional instruments)
- Traditional and classical music
- Contemporary music
The Phare musicians will also host on stage short performances of contemporary dance and circus.
Circus Day // Saturday April 06 from 2:30pm to 5pm
From 2:30 pm, dive into an original circus adventure and follow the itinerary that will lead you from one performing art show to another!
6 stages will be set up on 6 different places of the French Institute. Each stage will welcome a small circus troupe accompanied by live music and eventually live painting. This artistic journey will showcase different circus acts: juggling, hand to hand, acrobatics, rolabola, hoola hoop, clowning, banquine and many other surprises…
